loft apartment—> soho ~ new york city
This SOHO stunner is the perfect example of the design process we share with our clients. What started out as a design for a single man with a love of art and writing turned into a newly married couple with two art collections vying for wall space and two design eyes in search of guidance.
Each area of the open plan is delineated by the carpets and the one-hundred-fifty-year-old beams overhead. These two elements specify areas of the home without the need for interior walls to lend an airy feel to the space. Light washed floor boards mirror the ceiling and contrast the gunmetal black steel window frames to create a calm feeling of suspension.
Industrial Halophane lamps were sourced to illuminate the rough-hewn oak slab table set on 19th century industrial iron legs.
The kitchen area was set with a fumeless cooker to maximise the seamless flow of space. A translucent glass and steel backsplash was installed to enhance the flow of light, yet conceal the vast pantry beyond.
A custom tufted headboard was created for this king sized bed. Wool carpet and mohair covered seats offset the fabulous depth of colour in the brick wall. Mirrored glass sits in the partition for privacy.
